A bass guitarist for a garage-rock band, Scott Pilgrim has never had trouble getting a girlfriend; usually, the problem is getting rid of them. But when Ramona Flowers skates into his heart, he finds she has the most troublesome baggage of all: an army of ex-boyfriends who will stop at nothing to eliminate him from her list of suitors.
“Wait! We're fighting over Ramona?”
My Review
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World takes the concept of an old damsel-in-distress movie and flips it. While you have the classic tropes of a damsel-in-distress movie: the hero, the damsel and the list of villains, there is something about this movie that makes it unique. You'll see that the characters are not the type of people to fit the role they are meant to, thus, the hero fits better with the damsel role, and vice-versa. This is quite a refreshing change! Moreover, the movie is fun and stylish, and filled with clever one-liners and natural jokes, along with a bit of fun cringe-ness. Did I mention the eye-catching effects? It makes you feel as if you are in a video game/comic book. Plus, the cast completes the movie perfectly. Micheal Cera plays the part of an awkward Scott Pilgrim to perfection, along with a few surprising cameos! Although there was one disappointing factor, at least in my view: that Knives' didn't get the character arc I was hoping. Nonetheless, the movie is fun, refreshing and easy to watch. It's weird! It's unique! It's great!
