Trapped in detention, four high school students discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don't just play Jumanji - you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they must go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives.
“The goal for you. I'll recite in verse. Return the jewel and lift the curse. If you wish to leave the game. You must save Jumanji and call out its name."
My Review
This modern remake of the original adventurous tale of Jumanji is wonderfully cast, with each actor being the perfect fit for their character. The Rock's cowardly-hero, Karen Gillan's shy-turned-courageous avatar, Kevin Hart's comical outrage and, my personal favorite, Jack Black's inner teenage girl, were all portrayed to the utmost perfection. Each line was well delivered, portraying a clear storyline and hilarious jokes. Not a second went by where I felt even a hint of boredom, no matter how many times I have watched the film. This Jumanji remake is a family film with just a little edge (fantasy violence, with a sprinkle of snarky remarks) but thoroughly enjoyable for practically any audience, in my opinion. Although, it was not as close to the original as I had thought it would be, it was still marvelous in it's own way.
