Set in 1973, it chronicles the funny and often poignant coming of age of 15-year-old William, an unabashed music fan who is inspired by the seminal bands of the time. When his love of music lands him an assignment from Rolling Stone magazine to interview the up-and-coming band Stillwater - fronted by lead guitar Russell Hammond and lead singer Jeff Bebe - William embarks on an eye-opening journey with the band's tour, despite the objections of his protective mother.
“You'll meet them all again on the long journey to the middle."
My Review
The film beautifully portrays the extroverted popular culture of the 1970s, that is seen through the soundtrack. It was quite a wonderful experience to be transported to that era, through the eyes of someone who observed and experience it. However, while this sense of nostalgia may be high for those who lived through the depicted era, everyone can identify with some part of adolescence of young adulthood in this movie: the love of the music, the feeling of first time one falls in love, and the sheer excitement and ride that defines life itself! In other words, the movie captures the feelings of youth during a time of freedom, where one had the entire world ahead of them! However, at some times, it may be hard to connect yourself into the story, and to find it relatable. This is mainly due to the differences between the presented era, and the world we currently live in. Nonetheless, the overall feeling that the story gave to its audience was quite intriguing. This was all done through excellent and wonderfully scripted dialogue and rhythm, along with beautiful acting. Thus, the film is terrific, and should definitely be classified as a 2000s classic!
